HAMBURGER: ANOTHER LOST SMILE SONG

Sure, all of you familiar with Brian Wilson know of his "hamburger songs" of the '70s. But not many people know that there actually WAS a song called "Hamburger" slated for the ill-fated Smile album. Hot off the heels of the "Elements Suite", Brian contemplated a "Food Suite", which was to include: vegetables, hamburgers and of course reddi-whip for dessert! Alas, like many of the other ideas for Smile, such as "Barnyard", "Hamburger" was recorded and quickly disgarded. A video was shot, using a then unkown duo of Sid & Marty Crofft and puppets of large hamburgers (Many of these puppets were later altered for use in "H.R. Puffenstuff").

Now, the lyrics for the unreleased song from Smile called, "Hamburger":
(note: sung to the same music as "VegeTables")
I'm gonna add cheese to my hamburger,
I'm gonna be pleased with my hamburger,
I love you most of all...my favorite hamburger...
If Dennis brought a great big bag of them home,
I'd jump up and down and write a song for a double.
I'm gonna keep well my hamburger,
dig that great smell of my hamburger
I love you most of all...my favorite hamburger...

I tried to buy a bag full at three in the morning,
but McDonalds was closed, all the cooks were home snoring.

Mom & Dad say,
Cook it well, heat it well, kill samonela...
Use grade-A meat...and you'll be...a happy fella

ba ba ba bah ba ba ba bah...

I tried to use my grill, but I ran out of propane
its red as a beat now and I'm so embarrassed...

I know that you'll feel better when
when you drive through that window to order and
tell them the name of your
your favorite hambuger

Mom & Dad say,
Cook it well, heat it well, kill samonela
Use grade-A meat...and you'll be...a happy fella
